The game everyone’s been anticipating for the past year was as amazing as we could have imagined. The energy was high, the fans were hyped, and our boys absolutely dominated. It was definitely a night to remember, and it will go down in Texas Tech history as the time we put Chris Beard in his place.

Students camped out in tents for days prior to the Tuesday night game, but despite how exhausted they must have been, they didn’t let it show in that arena. The energy was electric as the fans cheered for every basket as if it was the winning point. Some people said that the cheering in that arena we the loudest environment they’ve ever been in.

According to the meter in the arena, the noise in there made it up to 112 decibels. For reference, normal speaking is around 60 decibels, and a concert reaches around 100 decibels.

Along with how loud the fans were, they had the whole stadium swag surfing. You typically only see the student section participation in the iconic tradition, but it spread to the entire stadium for this game. Imagine all 15,000 people at the United Supermarkets Arena putting their arms around each other, swaying to the music, and hyping up their team. It was a crazy sight, and I hope that energy continues for the rest of the season.

Our boys are incredibly talented and worked incredibly hard for this win. Of course, the win came down to our team’s skill, but some may say that the burning of the UT flag before the game might have had some sort of effect on the turnout.

A video on TikTok shows a group of students taking an upside-down Longhorns flag and setting it on fire before displaying it proudly outside the arena. Others might say the Chris Beard doormat that was placed at the student’s entrance encouraged the Longhorns demise as well.

As entertaining as those antics are, we couldn't be happier with our team for making Lubbock proud. Let’s keep the energy up and keep supporting our boys through the rest of the season.
