Do You Remember The Hottest Day On Record In Lubbock?
I vividly remember the hottest day in recorded history in Lubbock. I was 5 years old and my family had just moved to town from Muncie, Indiana. I'd never really experienced any hot weather before. I was in for a rude awakening my first summer in Texas.
The hottest day on record here was on June 27, 1994, when temperatures reached 114 degrees. I was trapped riding around in the backseat of a minivan with crappy air conditioning. Hell, I don't even know if the air conditioner worked at all. If it did, I certainly couldn't tell. Meanwhile, the number one song at the time, "I Swear" by All-4-One was playing over and over on the radio.
Legs stuck to the leather seats, I stared out the window wondering if we'd ever be indoors again. I felt like I was literally dying. WHY DID WE LEAVE INDIANA!?
For some ungodly reason, my parents decided to run a ton of errands all over town that day. Lubbock, Texas suddenly became a strange hell that I was desperate to get out of. It was absolutely miserable.
Do you remember it too?
We have experienced some really hot days since then, but nothing quite like that day in 1994. I won't ever forget.
