Egg Prices in Texas Are Expected to Climb Even Higher
It might be time to find a breakfast alternative in Texas. Egg prices are steep in Texas and are only expected to climb even higher due to Avian Influence A (H5N1), a virus that not only affects birds but can also spread to humans. Not good.
Breakfast isn't the only time you have eggs. They're basically in EVERYTHING.
If you've been begging your significant other to let you have a chicken coop in the backyard, today is the day to bat your eyes and pull out the hard facts! The USDA has set the wholesale egg price to $6.57 per dozen, a drastic increase from just a week before at $6.14.
At this rate, pawn shops might start taking eggs...you never know...
Last December, over 12.2 million chickens died of bird flu, and that only accounts for egg-laying chickens. Right now, there are outbreaks in North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, and California. Your eggs in Texas come from all over the United States, which is why even though the majority of chickens affected aren't here, our pockets are still going to feel the blow.
If you've never tried egg alternatives, you can actually find a few that are pretty good. Check out some different vegan egg options. When you use them in baked goods, you usually can't even tell the difference. You can find a list of egg alternatives here that may be easier on your wallet, and safer, in the midst of this avian flu outbreak.
