Texas Governor Greg Abbott has given a deadline to Texas utility companies to restore power to the nearly 300,000 people in the Houston area who are still stuck in the sweaty dark hellholes their homes have become since hurricane Beryl smacked the state last week.

So far, CenterPoint Energy has restored power to 98% of their customers, but there are still SO many more that are suffering. It's too damn hot in Houston and people are fed up.  A friend of mine in the area has been living at her workplace with her three young children just to escape the unbearable temperature at their home. She's not a happy camper, and I don't blame her. The heat index on Monday in Houston was 103 degrees.

In a news conference Monday, Abbott said,

"Just suffice it to say that the clock is ticking for CenterPoint to step up and get the job done."

Hopefully, he gets the point across and everyone in Houston will be enjoying some refreshing A/C and their favorite Netflix specials soon in the comfort of their own homes.

Thank goodness for the local agencies that are doing their best to provide food, ice, and water to everyone still without power. I'm not exactly sure what I'd do in that situation, but I feel like sitting in my car with the cold air blasting and running through a TON of gasoline would likely be on my radar. Sounds pretty expensive.

Don't you think the power company owes customers a little extra cash?

How are you doing over there, Houston? Let me know in a comment below this article, or email me at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com.
