How About Making Lubbock a Sanctuary City for the Uninfected?
The idiocy that is going on in this town is unfathomable.
Right now, we could save lives in Lubbock. Instead, some people are fully invested in an unenforceable law/ordinance and are risking lives to push it. This situation is literally like they are trying to sell us on tornado preparations while our house is on fire.
If you don't know what's happening, some Texas lawmakers pushed this idea of turning Lubbock into a 'Sanctuary City for the Unborn.' Basically, it's throwing a hot potato in our lap. You don't have to be a legal scholar to realize that Lubbock can't make a law that trumps state or U.S. law. It's ridiculous, and it was very much like saying, 'Hey, Lubbock, want some lawsuits? Well, try this!'
But let's set that aside for right now. At this very moment, we could be saving people's lives. People are dying every single day of COVID-19, and these politicians and activists are saying, 'hey, look over there.' In fact, it's worse than that. They are forcing meetings that don't need to happen and risking further coronavirus infections.
This is a sick game and I hope everyone remembers this moment in time. This isn't even necessarily a binary choice. A person could care about both these issues, but the obvious one, the one that has required medical tents to be set up outside our hospitals right now is all but ignored.
As of this writing, 283 of our fellow citizens have died. We could all team up together and make Lubbock a Sanctuary City for the Uninfected" and work towards eliminating this serious threat to our town. The procedures we need to do this are easy and you already know what's required. We can discuss everything else once we get this thing under control.
