Found in the Trinity River nearly two days after being reported missing, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences revealed the cause of death as blunt head trauma, a heartrending conclusion to a case that has gripped Texans far and wide.

Audrii vanished on Thursday, February 15, failing to catch her school bus in the morning. The discovery of her body six days later, as announced by Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons, ended the frantic search but opened a chapter of profound grief and unanswered questions.

The medical examiner determined Audrii's death resulted from homicidal violence. While specifics about her condition were withheld, the details released were enough to confirm the community's worst fears.

Don Steven McDougal, a figure previously identified as a person of interest, has since been charged with the capital murder of Audrii.
