Hey fellow Texans, I’ve got a red hot update for your next backyard BBQ! Just when we thought we’d seen it all—from brisket bombs to bacon-wrapped jalapeños—2025 is serving us something totally different: Hot Dog Towers!

A Hot Dog WHAT???

Now hear me out before you roll your eyes. I know barbecues in Texas are usually all about smoked meat, Lone Star beer, and keeping things simple. But if you're looking to turn heads at your next cookout and serve up something that’s both over-the-top and ridiculously fun, this trend is for YOU!

The idea?

Take a multi-tiered serving tray—like the kind you'd expect to see stacked with shrimp cocktails at a fancy seafood joint—and load it with hot dogs.

I’m talking three glorious levels of grilled goodness. Imagine this: brats sizzling on the bottom, classic beef dogs holding it down in the middle, and pigs-in-a-blanket crowning the top tier like the BBQ royalty they are. If you’re feeling extra, throw some crinkle fries or tots on one layer, and dedicate a tier just to wild condiments—pickle relish, jalapeño mustard, and maybe even some good ol' chili and cheese!

A hot dog joint out in South Carolina called Sir Wieners is claiming credit for this culinary genius. They teamed up with a fancier restaurant called Lamar’s last fall and started serving these towers as a comical alternative to seafood towers. The result? Pure gold! The owner says it's the perfect combo of “ridiculous and delicious.” And you know what?

I Think Lubbock is ready!

Why does this work so well? Well, for starters—hot dogs are cheap, fun, and crowd-pleasing, especially when you get creative. And with meat prices climbing faster than a July thermometer, hot dogs offer big flavor on a budget.

So the next time you fire up the grill at Buffalo Springs, in your backyard, or even tailgating outside The Jones, consider stacking your dogs high and proud. Your guests will eat it up—literally—and it might just be your new go-to party move.

Let’s make Hot Dog Towers a West Texas thing. Who’s in?

Hot Dogs and the Story of Burger King's Hot Dog Flop

When one is writing a story about hot dogs, it is appropriate to include many pictures from the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. Did you know there is a National Hot Dog and Sausage Council? I didn't...until today. You know what I said when I found them?
