Get ready Texas fishermen, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is gearing up to stock Texas ponds, lakes, and water ways with Rainbow Trout starting in late November in some locations and throughout early 2025.

Not every city will see Rainbow Trout brought in this year and some locations will only have one pond or lake stocked, but for those who haven't fished for trout before and for those who have, many locations around the state of Texas will give you plenty of opportunities to fish for trout.

For those fishing for trout, there will be no minimum length limit, but there is a daily bag limit of 5 trout. Someone fishing in a Community Fishing Lake or from a dock, pier, or jetty in a Texas State Park can not use more than two poles. For those who haven't fished for trout before, Texas Parks and Wildlife says that Rainbow Trout are fun to catch for the entire family.

Rainbow trout are not only fun to catch for the entire family; they are an attractive fish that make for excellent table fare. Easy to catch and great eating, makes this fish very popular among Texas anglers. This leads to many new anglers anxious to try catching rainbow trout every season.

So when will area lakes, ponds, and water ways near you be stocked? Texas Parks and Wildlife has this 2024-2025 Trout Stocking Schedule online where you can keep track and maybe find a new place to fish.

For those in Lubbock, last year year no area lake was stocked with trout, but in December, the playa lake at McCullough Park will get trout.
