Legendary Guitarist & Composer Uli Jon Roth To Perform At Lubbock’s Cactus Theater

There are many gifted guitar players across the world, but a great guitar composer is a rarer breed.

Uli Jon Roth is both a technically masterful player and an innovative composer of guitar music. In the truest sense, he's an artist, and his medium is the guitar.

Uli Jon Roth will be displaying his mastery here in Lubbock. Uli Jon Roth and his band will perform his 2024 Interstellar Sky Guitar, a 3+ hour multimedia experience at the historic Cactus Theater on Thursday, May 16th.

The first half of the show will feature songs composed by Roth and excerpts from classical pieces from Vivaldi. It'll also feature a brief "TED talk" from Roth. Following intermission, Roth will return to the stage to perform songs from his tenure with German rock giants Scorpions and his band Electric Sun.

Here's a performance of Sails of Charon by Scorpions, with Roth calm and near zen-like as his fingers flash through the complex notes of this incredible and innovative guitar solo. It's the first 1:25 of the song and it's just so impressive.

Roth will perform in Lubbock on an instrument of his own invention- the seven-string Sky Guitar, which features an astounding six-octave tonal range which, "enables Uli to equal the registers of the violin and the cello." So cool.
