On Monday, February 22nd, Lubbock Power & Light confirmed that customers will not be subject to short-term fluctuations in electric rates like other regions of Texas are dealing with.

In an LP&L release, they said that customers are billed for their actual energy use recorded from their electric meter, meaning anyone that was without power during the week-long winter storm event had no electric use recorded while electricity wasn't flowing through the meter.

LP&L customers are only charged for the power they consume and will be charged at the existing rates that were approved in October of 2020. The last time there was an adjustment to customers' base electric rates was in October of 2017.

LP&L rates do not fluctuate based off high or low usage patterns. This means that if a customer consumes higher than their average kilowatt hours, their electric bill would be higher than a normal month, and it would be less if they consumed less respectively.

Customers across Texas that are being impacted by major bill spikes typically have variable price billing and are vulnerable to sudden price swings from the wholesale energy market. LP&L rates, however, are fixed within winter and summer seasons.

LP&L customers with questions concerning their account can email CustomerFirst@CityofLubbockUtilities.com or call 806-775-2509.

It is asked that you continue to monitor news related to LP&L on Twitter, Facebook and CityofLubbockUtilities.com for updates.
