Lubbock’s Barbeque Scene Is Getting Some Well-deserved Love
There was a time when Lubbock wasn’t even in the conversation for best barbeque, but that’s changed. Surprisingly, it’s not the old-school joints but the fresher faces taking home the kudos.
I guess I need to be upfront: Evie Mae’s scored the 10th Best Barbeque Joint in the Texas Monthly 2025 survey. The only issue is, Evie Mae’s is not technically in Lubbock—it’s in nearby Wolfforth.

Evie Mae’s is frequently lauded as one of the best anywhere, and we’re certainly proud of them. In the grand scheme of things, a top 10 result after only 10 years in business is absolutely incredible. I’m just not so sure Lubbock can officially claim them.
While we're talking about “out-of-town” places, Texas Monthly also said that Rejino BBQ out of Olton was worth the hour drive. [Sorry, the paywall hit before we could get more information.]
In something both stunning and impressive, Jimenez Y Friends received an honorable mention. Keep in mind that Jimenez Y Friends only serves barbeque on the weekends, with the rest of the week reserved for Mexican food and their bakery. For them to be included while only being “part-time” is absolutely amazing.
We spoke with Texas Monthly barbeque czar Daniel Vaughn 12 years ago when his book came out (we actually use it as an armrest/reference guide in our studio). At that time, no Lubbock BBQ joints made the cut. It's great to see the culture, the food, and the smoke finally rising in the Hub City.
