Lubbock Citibus has added a new route to the far-off Texas DPS office that was relocated near the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport at the end of 2013.

On Wednesdays the route will service the Downtown Transfer Plaza, 801 Broadway, and stop at the Lubbock Business Park and at the Kings Dominion Housing Development in the 900 block of N. MLK Blvd.

If demand for the route is high, Citibus will consider adding more days of service, said General Manger Maurice Pearl. He told KFYO Citibus added the route after citizens complained about the long walk to the remote building with unsafe or nonexistent foot paths at some points.

Citibus requested additional funds from Lubbock’s city council to make the route available and Pearl gave all “kudos to the council and mayor” for listening to the needs of Lubbock's citizens.

A one-way pass is $1.75 and a round-trip ticket is $3.50, the same as an all-day pass. A round-trip pass also works for all other Citibus routes that day.

Buses will begin departures from the Downtown Transfer Plaza at 9:20 each morning and will continue running approximately every half hour with the last bus departing for the DPS office at 4:20 p.m.
