Community Program Aims to Reduce Illegal Dumping

The City of Lubbock Solid Waste Department is teaming up with Texas Tech University for the annual Move Out Give Back event on May 13. The program is designed to help reduce illegal dumping during the busy student move-out season while encouraging residents to donate reusable household items.

Students and community members can drop off usable furniture, small appliances, and other reusable goods at designated collection sites across the city. The initiative also provides a convenient option for disposing of damaged or oversized items responsibly.

Drop-Off Locations and Hours

Residents can bring items to either of the following locations:

  • Elgin Avenue and 29th Street, next to the City of Lubbock recycling site near the LP&L Substation at 2901 Elgin Ave.
  • First Baptist Church, southeast parking lot at 13th Street and Avenue V

The collection event will take place on Wednesday, May 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Accepted Donation Items

Attendants will be available onsite to help determine whether donated items are suitable for reuse. All donated items should be clean and free of debris.

Accepted reusable items include:

  • Hard-surface furniture
  • Large shelving units
  • Lamps
  • Microwaves
  • Mini refrigerators
  • Coffee makers
  • Other small working appliances

Bulky Waste Disposal Information

Residents with oversized items that cannot fit inside a dumpster are encouraged to use the city’s bulky waste disposal resources. Additional information is available through the City of Lubbock's bulky waste program.
