Pour One Out: Lubbock Loses Another Bar Amid String Of Closures
It seems like Lubbock just can't keep a bar open lately.
However, with this latest closure, the problem appears to have been much larger than Lubbock.
World of Beer, located in Lubbock's West End Shopping Center, has quietly closed.
According to Everything Lubbock, the building's locks were changed and the number is now out of order.
This wasn't a completely unforeseen event—back in August, we reported that other World of Beer locations had closed in Texas and that Lubbock could also be on the chopping block.
This closure happened just as Bodine's Cocktail Parlor announced it would only be open for a couple more weeks. Frosthouse closed abruptly earlier this month. And Mano Negra is being forced to move locations soon.
It seems like you should make those memories while you can (and support local when you are able).
My family made many happy memories at Lubbock's World of Beer, which was a Lubbock-owned franchise. We would gather there to watch The Lubbock Laugh Off with a packed house of other comedy fans.
My aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who could be family would fill up the biggest tables- and enjoy a couple (more like several) delicious drinks. It was a good time.
I am grateful for the times we had there, and it is sad to see the place go.
However, Lubbock is a place full of options for gathering- be it a bar, a restaurant, or a hybrid of the two.
Best of luck to the employees of WOB on landing a great new gig, and here's hoping for the best for the owners on their new adventures.
