Lubbock’s Electricity Nightmare Ends This Friday

Where We've Been

It remains to be seen if people were mistreated, overcharged, or somehow abused by Lubbock Power and Light. I think that for the most part, they had a thankless job and were an easy target. I DO think that having competition will lead to better customer service all the way around since you can switch providers if you're unhappy with your service.

You Have Six Weeks

Starting this Friday you have six weeks to choose your electric provider. "Choosing" a provider is a little confusing. It's not like you'll be given a ballot with choices and you just select the one you want. Choosing means selecting and signing up with an electric provider. For instance, you would just check out the different websites and plans and enter your information.

You Have Help Deciding

This Friday and Saturday at the Lubbock Civic Center most, if not all, providers will be at the Lubbock Civic Center. You can go booth to booth and decide what's best for you. It's advised that you bring a bill along so that the providers can talk about your specific needs. Other events are planned as well.

Here's What You Need

If you'd prefer to shop online, you can do that at Power To Choose. As of this moment, all providers were not included, but I expect it will be updated once Friday gets here. If nothing else, you can get an idea of what it's going to look like for now, including ratings, rates, terms, and more.

What Happens If You Don't Decide?

If you get busy and forget to sign up with a provider, one will be assigned to you. It's not like your electricity will be shut off until you decide. There is no reason to panic.

The Fall Out Will Be Fun To Watch

Pardon me for saying so, but I think a lot of people are going to find out that a lot of people are going to find out that the problems they had with LP&L were their fault. I would also expect there will be a lot of people who will change electric providers over and over.
