Lubbock’s Kingsgate Shopping Center Is Losing Another Business For Good
Popular and iconically Lubbock shopping center Kingsgate is losing a sizable boutique clothing, linen, and accessories location on the center's south side. Soft Surroundings is closing permanently, with signage up indicating a corresponding sale. The store is located next to La Madeline.
2023 has not been kind to many brick-and-mortar locations, and Soft Surroundings is no exception. The retail store, known for soft fabrics in its clothing and linens, is closing all of its retail stores after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in September. The retailer will still be available online.
Soft Surroundings has been in operation for 24 years and has been open in Lubbock since 2019. Everything in the store is currently on sale, including new arrivals.
...storewide discounts of 20% to 50% off original prices are in effect at all locations. Everything is on sale, including new arrivals perfect for holiday parties and gift giving.
The closing sales apply to retail stores only and are not available online, although the online storefront has its special deals, as it 'tis the season for early Black Friday shopping.
It's always a shame when Lubbock loses a brick-and-mortar store, as it represents the loss of jobs, the loss of city sales tax, and the loss of an opportunity to interface with the real world while shopping. I like shopping online as much as the next person, but I also appreciate the opportunity to browse, to return items easily, and the ability to buy something and have it in my hands immediately.
Luckily, even after Soft Surroundings closes its doors for good, Kingsgate is still well populated with many other retailers, including plenty of women's clothing options. I'll be wrapping The Loft in bubble wrap.
