The Lubbock area may not be immediately thought of as rich in natural beauty, but if you know where to look, you know that is patently false.

Lubbock is located on a vast mesa- one of the biggest in North America. This means our unique environment supports all kinds of beautiful, interesting, and unique plants and animals. My parents, who live in far north Lubbock, see explosions of wildflowers every spring. I've also seen several animals out there- from turkeys to foxes, roadrunners to jackrabbits.

Those of us who grew up here understand that Lubbock is what you make of it- and you get exactly what you put into it.

So if you're willing to do a little exploring, and to keep your eyes open, you'll find plenty of natural beauty on our majestic prairie land. And if you're lucky, you may even spot one of these rare, endangered, or threatened animals that live or visit this area.
