A former boss of ours passed away, and I don't want it to go unrecognized. I know he had many friends and clients in Lubbock that would like to be aware of his passing.

Phil Hand passed away on February 9th, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.

I kept in touch with Phil a bit on the down-low after he left our family. I don't think anybody knew Phil and I even had contact. He truly loved Lubbock, but also loved getting back to Albuquerque. We didn't have a heck of a lot to catch up on when we visited because that's just the way men are, but he seemed to really love getting back to a place with a bit more nature to offer.

If all of this seems a little trepidatious, then let me tell you the best thing about Phil. Phil and I did not initially get along too well at first, but that's where Phil's upside really shined. Even though we went through a rough patch, Phil fought for me in a way no one had before. Think about it: how many bosses have you had that you didn't get along with who actually worked to get you promoted? It takes a very special human to realize that we all have our differences, and sometimes you just have to get over them and do what's best for everybody.

We have Phil to thank for hiring 94.5 FMX air personality, Renee Raven. We can thank Phil for bringing our friend Boleo into the company, too. Phil pretty much made a son out of one of our salesmen. I'm sure I'm missing out on some props here, but Phil brought some of the family together that we still enjoy today.

If you wish to pay your respects to Phil, you can do so here.

Rest in peace, Phil Hand.
