The Art
According to some marketers, we've been doing it wrong for decades. According to some other marketers, we're dang geniuses and should probably get some kind of design award. What I'm talking about is, FMX constantly fudging with it's extremely popular and well known logo. I personally think it's the definition of "rock and roll" to upset the applecart and go against conventional thinking and set new trends instead of following old ones.
History
Technically FMX has had four logos during it's 43 (and soon to be 44) year run. There was the original scratchy-looking logo that was printed on trapezoids as a nod to the Pyramid Plaza )which everybody thought was going to be more famous than it is). Next up was the weird new wavy grid thing that took us through the MTV music video/new wave years. There was a short period of the "License to Rock" logo which looked like a cross between the 1st and second logos but was printed on metallic shiny stickers. Finally, the FMX purple spot was introduced.
The Present
I can't tell you exactly when the Purple Spot was, but I guess it was around 1990-1991. Its introduction was within that period when I was a radio nomad talking my noise across the country. A little later than that the one-color, outline version of it was introduced for us on stationary and whatnot. Now, don't even get me started lying about when we started messing with the color of the purple spot, but we've now done it hundreds of times.
The Giveaway
So now you know a little history, how about you own a small sliver of it. We saved back three collector item 2X tees. You'll get our first ever "Baseball Spot", a "Pumpkin Spot", and one of the new "Sports Team Colors" spot (kind of looks like someone's recent football uniforms). You can enter for these three below. One more item. be listening for FMX live on location because this month we have limited edition long sleeves we're giving away. And as always, thanks to the good folks at Advanced Graphix for indulging our whims and designing our dreams on the rockin' shirts in West Texas.
