How to Stay Chill When Social Media in Lubbock Is on Fire
Our Lubbock friends are upset right now, and tensions are running high. Whether it’s sports, politics, or just a neighborhood Facebook group meltdown, it can feel like the whole city is ready to boil over.
I can’t fix everything — and sadly, the people who need this the most probably won’t read it. They’ll be too busy writing and fighting online.
But if you are reading this, maybe you can help cool things down when the online temperature spikes.
Lubbock Will Be Just Fine — If We Stop Fueling the Fire
Forgive me if I don’t dive into the “why” of writing this. I want this to be timeless, something you can come back to any time the Lubbock internet explodes.
Here are a few tips from me — a former rage blogger — on how to stay chill when everyone else is not:
3 Tips to Keep Your Cool
1. Someone else will make your point for you.
Whatever your opinion is, someone else has already posted it. If you’re not adding a completely fresh and unique perspective, you’re just adding fuel to the fire.
2. Don’t take the bait.
Most internet fights are started by people who want to fight. They’re rage-baiting you, and you don’t have to be part of it. Remember: just because you’re invited to a fight doesn’t mean you have to show up.
3. Your opinion changes nothing.
It’s extremely rare that someone you argue with will say, “You know what, you’re right!” Don’t raise your blood pressure for nothing.
️ Choose to Be the Calm in the Chaos
You’re not going to get validation by being the angriest person online. When Facebook or X is on fire, post pictures of your food, your pets, or something funny. Show people there’s a better way.
Choose to make a change now, when the temperature is hottest. It’s a whole lot more fun being a good person than dropping hot takes.
