Texas Check Your Pantry: Multiple Brands Of Cinnamon Recalled For Toxic Substance
It may be time to clean out your spice cabinet- not just for dusty old expired spices, but for bottles that could contain a very toxic substance: lead.
Multiple brands of cinnamon are currently on the FDA recall list for potential lead contamination.
If you have any of the following brands of cinnamon, you'll want to check the FDA website for lot numbers/ expiration dates to see if your product could be contaminated.

Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon

Most adults who are exposed to enough lead to make them sick are people who are exposed on job sites or through certain hobbies like jewelry making or stained glass art.
However, exposure to contaminated foods can make people sick as well.
Lead exposure can cause high blood pressure and brain, kidney and reproductive health issues in adults. Symptoms of lead poisoning include headaches, stomach cramps, constipation, muscle/joint pain, trouble sleeping, fatigue, irritability, and loss of sex drive.
If you find that you do have potentially contaminated cinnamon, each entry on the FDA's website has contact information for the company to contact. They should have instructions on how to obtain a refund. I
If you're not worried about the refund, simply discontinue use and dispose of the product.
Interestingly, the cinnamon we consume comes from multiple tree species. "True" cinnamon comes from the Ceylon cinnamon tree, but most of us eat what is known as Cassia cinnamon.
