Why Texas Families Argue Loudly But Always Leave Together
Have you ever witnessed a Texas family argument? At my folks' house, it can sound like the opening scene of a true crime documentary. Voices raised, hands waving, someone bringing up something that happened in 2009 for no reason. It’s loud. It’s chaotic. It's embarrassing. And, it's also deeply uncomfortable for anyone within a 50-foot radius.
And yet...everyone stays together.
What's up with that? I think I might have it figured out...
Texas families don't argue quietly. We just don't. We don't do the passive-aggressive, dramatic whispering and door slamming followed by a text apology later. Nope. We seem to air it out right there in the open, at full volume, and sometimes in public. The grocery store and parking lots are great spots to scream at one another, but, hey, so is the restaurant, or why not right in front of guests sitting on the couch, awkwardly pretending not to listen?
It confuses outsiders because afterward, everything just seems to go back to normal. We all still pile into the same vehicle and go back to the same home, or to dinner, or to the amusement park, or wherever it is we were headed. We just have a good stop, drop, and argue from time to time.

At the end of the day, Texas arguments aren't about ending relationships. Not at all. They are all about releasing pressure. We are "nice" here, and that means things can build up. Once everyone has said their peace, pointed a finger, and erupted like an emotional storm, it's time to set the table and eat.
Family may drive you insane, but in Texas, they're still family. We argue loudly around here, but we always leave together. That's just a little Texas love for ya, folks.
