It's not that often that I'm stunned, but I'm a bit stunned right now.

History

My family moved me to Texas over 40 years ago. It was quite the culture shock coming from California to a tiny little town in Texas called Union. It was days before I found out it was near a bigger town, Brownfield, and even longer before I discovered the City Of Lubbock. I eventually fell in love with Texas, but in those early days one of those things we'd say to stay positive was, "At least we don't have to deal with earthquakes". Especially when you're young and dumb, something you can see, like "tornadoes" beats something you can't see like earthquakes.

Earthquakes

Earthquakes are a regular thing in Texas now, in fact 1000 earthquakes were measured in Texas this past summer. It's a pretty well established fact that most, if not all of these earthquakes are the result of man-made situations. Drilling, fracking, and the injection of wastewater underground cause different situations that cause measurable earthquakes.  We're not here to debate those, we're here to tell you that it's got so frequent that Texas is now promoting "The Great American Shakeout".

Join In

I can not find a date for Texas joining in on these celebrations. Something tells me that current promotion of this event means it's pretty recent, if not this year. The Great Texas Shakeout is a day for earthquake preparedness. You can officially sign up to participate for this October 17th celebration/preparation here. It certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to figure out how to protect yourself in advance of a large quake (and it's almost the same things you'd do during tornados).  Texas will no doubt keep shakin', so figure out your plan now.

Banned in other counties, and now banned in California, these potentially dangerous food additives have been shown to cause cancer, ADHD, and more adverse effects.
