Texas is a pretty good place to have a career in law enforcement. While not in the top ten, Texas bubbles under as a good place to be a police officer.

Texas has taken more than a few hits lately. When it comes to surveys and studies we have looked bad in most categories presented. This makes our placing as 14th best for law enforcement officers a pleasant surprise.

The last study from our friends at Wallethub is a pleasant surprise. They broke the study down to "Opportunity And Competition", "Law Enforcement Training Requirements", and "Job Hazards And Protection". Each of those categories were made up of several metrics.

The good news is we scored 11th in training and 14th in opportunity. The bad news is we came in at #8 for job hazards and protections.

Study Shows Texas Offers Positives for Police Officers

So what's the big takeaway from all of this? Texas is not a bad place to be policeman, but it's a bit wild out there. This is of course looking at the study in the most general of terms. You might also say that Texas police are trained well because they have a tough job.

It should be mentioned that the survey was for all 50 states plus the District Of Columbia. This is pretty important because the best place to be a cop is the District Of Columbia.

As for the worst places to work in law enforcement, the bottom three are Nevada, Hawaii, and Alaska. I can understand how the "lawlessness" of Vegas may cause problems, and how the remoteness of Alaska would be tough, but Hawaii? I'm sure the cops there don't think they have it too bad.
