Texas Man Charged With Stalking Indiana Basketball Star
55-year-old Michael T. Lewis was arrested last Sunday for sending sexually explicit and threatening texts to Indiana Fever basketball star Caitlin Clark. Lewis even traveled to Indiana "with the intent to be in proximity to the victim" according to court documents.
Police discovered Lewis had been sending Clark messages from an IP address in Indianapolis while staying in a hotel near her. They asked him to stop messaging her, but he didn't stop. He continued to bother her, and she grew increasingly fearful of him. She even said she altered her public appearance and changed her patterns of movement because she was afraid of him.
Clark had never met Lewis and said she never responded to a single message, and yet, he persisted.
Lewis was charged with stalking and is scheduled to appear in Marion Superior Court next Tuesday.
If you've never been stalked before, consider yourself lucky. It can happen to anyone, and it's one of the most horrific experiences a person can go through. I feel for Caitlin.
I was stalked by someone for several years. I had no idea who it was. I was bombarded with disgusting text messages and phone calls, but I was too afraid to tell anyone it was happening. I was only 16 years old when it began. I didn't learn that my stalker was a close friend of mine until I was 19. Terrified doesn't begin to describe the way I felt to learn my stalker was someone I had confided in that I was being stalked. He was eventually arrested for aggravated stalking and spent some time in prison but is a free man today.
In fact, he's a professor at a university now.
I worry.
