It's On!

May 1st is actually the beginning of "Free Comic Book May". Our friends at Star Comics are celebrating with free comic books every Wednesday and Saturday. It's an excellent time to pick up some fun reading material and maybe dive into a series or genre that you haven't check out before.

May The 4th

May the 4th, Saturday is officially "Free Comic Book Day", and also Star Wars Day (May The 4th Be With You). Star will also have freebies and specials that day. Again, Free Comic Book Day is just about as awesome as Free Ice Cream Day (still waiting on that one).

The Unexpected

You may think this a bit odd, but Free Comic Book Day is more than it seems, it's also a great opportunity to be social, even for people who aren't that social. There's something about a neighborhood comic book shop that makes you feel like you're part of a community. After all, you are in a place with people who have very similar interests. I also have NO problem asking someone, "I live this and that, and don't' care for this and that, what should I read next?" and I always get outstanding suggestions.

Suggestions From A Comic/Graphic Novel Guy

I am not much into superheroes, but The Watchmen may be the greatest superhero book ever. I will read and and all Planet Of The Apes comics/graphic novels. I am also totally into a series called, "Something Is Killing The Children". I've picked up two different books on David Bowie that were amazing. I really like Joe Hill's (Stephan King's son) "Basketful Of Heads". I think the later editions of "Ice Cream Man", a Twilight Zone type series are very well done. Finally, I think the series "Redneck" about hillbilly vampires is just about one of the best things I've ever read. I guess I could go on and on, but that's a good start.
