Video: McDonald’s Employees Hide From Active Shooter In Florida Restaurant
This horrifying TikTok video has gained over 22.2 million views and depicts an alleged active shooter situation that occurred in a McDonald's in Fort Meyers, Florida last October.
Employees and a minor are seen hiding in the kitchen while filming the terrifying ordeal from a distance.
This video may be sensitive to some viewers.
The text of the video reads "Tiroteo en McDonald's," which is Spanish for "shoot out in McDonald's."
A woman can be seen protecting a little boy from potential violence in what must have been very traumatic for everyone involved. Reports say that the alleged shooter, identified as 41-year-old Marlon Illescasa, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after barricading himself inside the bathroom of the restaurant during a stand-off.
Given that these events occur more and more frequently in the United States, it's worth noting that America appears to have a bit of trouble with gun control. It isn't that we shouldn't have guns altogether. No. The problems seem to come from who is able to get a hold of a gun.
While some would argue that criminals will find a way to get a gun no matter if they do it legally or not, there's also unchecked mental illness running rampant with our failing healthcare system. People are simply falling through the cracks and turning to violence.
This may have been one of those scenarios.
As hard as it may be to see a few seconds of a video like this one, something you can find all over the internet, it would be even harder to lose your loved one to unnecessary violence. There has to be a better way than this. We can do better.
