The calendar says Fall, but the outside temperatures don't agree.

This Isn't Helping

I will say that we are all still living in pandemic mode. The bad stuff seems worse than it is and the good stuff seems further away. Every little thing seems to pour salt into the wounds that we received. Making things a little worse this year was the fact that on the first calendar day of Fall, we actually had Fall temperatures.

Fall In Lubbock

So what is Fall in Lubbock? When you're asked that question you probably think temperatures in the 70's, breezy, and the leaves falling out of the trees. I guess we all think of Fall here as the way Fall is portrayed on t.v. and it's really not that way here. What I'm telling you is, the temperatures right now are that abnormal.

When It Hits

The type of days described above traditionally don't hit Lubbock until the third week of October, with the 22nd being the day where the average temperature drops from the mid-80's to the mid to low-70's.  I know you're also used to hearing the term "frost on the pumpkin" but that's rarely a thing here, with the first freeze actually happening near the end of November.

Enjoy It While You Can

So you can't just wait for a cold-snap to get into the Halloween mood, you have to just accept sweaty skeletons and sunburned witches as being the norm for a couple more weeks. The good news is, the mornings and evening are getting cooler and at least that's a start.
