Marissa Teijo didn't go home with the crown at the Miss Texas USA pageant last weekend, but she certainly left a lasting impression. The 71-year-old fitness guru from El Paso made history as the oldest ever to compete in Miss Texas USA. She was up against nearly 100 competitors and gave them all a run for their money, reminding us that age is just a number.

Teijo posted to her Instagram last month:

"I am delighted to be a part of this incredible new experience as a contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant. In doing so, I hope to inspire women to strive to be their best physical and mental self and believe there is beauty at any age."

Teijo won numerous fitness competitions over the years leading up to her entering the Miss Texas USA pageant. In an interview with KVIA News, she commented on her fitness journey, "I wanted to see how far I could go."

It's inspiring to see her compete at 71, and it's also a reminder that I should probably get back in the gym.

Despite her perfect physique, Marissa Teijo knows that being a beautiful person isn't only skin-deep.

"Beauty is not just on the outside, but it's on the inside also."

Way to go, Marissa! You've made Texas proud. We have the toughest and most beautiful women in the world! Thanks for representing us and inspiring courage in others to push themselves to achieve their dreams, no matter the odds. You're a badass.

Aarieanna Ware of Dallas, Texas was crowned winner after the pageant on Saturday and will go on to compete in the Miss USA Competition. Congratulations to her, and all the other competitors. You guys make Texas proud.
