Big In Texas: The Largest Steak In Texas Is Not Where You Think It Is
Texans love beef, and some love a LOT of beef.
How Much Meat Can You Handle?
Here's something very emasculating that I have to tell you. I usually only eat about half a New York Strip. Don't get me wrong, I have to have some meat with every meal, but I guess it doesn't have to be a lot. I still don't begrudge anyone who can pack that beef away though.
Who You Thought Had The Biggest Steak.
We've all seen the stories and heard the tales of the Amarillo Big Texan's steak challenge where if you eat a 72-ounce steak and all the sides in the prescribed amount of time you get your meal for free. Any number of people have completed the challenge, but it's still considered quite a feat if you do so.
The Current Champion.
Somewhere along the line, The Relay Station Restaurant out of Plantersville, Texas came into the picture. They raised the stakes on steaks by a Texas-sized amount. Their steak challenge features an 82-ounce steak and sides. Again, if you finish it all within the prescribed amount of time (75 minutes in this case) you get your meal for free. If you fail, you pay for your meal.
Where To Go.
I guess your first challenge is finding Plantersville. The town is located between College Station and Houston. From the looks of The Relay Station's Facebook, they seem to be worth finding whether you're diving into that humongous steak or not.
