Texas Wants To Recycle This One Weird Thing
Texas has a very unique result when the question "How To recycle...?" is asked
Google Trends
This is another survey with results based on what a state is asking more than other states. In this instance it's actually, "Uniquely searched items to recycle by state over the past year" for the year 2024. While the year is just in it's first quarter, these results are worth reporting on just for weirdness.
Other Locations
Most states don't have weird answers at all. "Cans", "televisions", "phones" and "batteries" make up the majority of the list. Meanwhile, in Arizona they want to know how to recycle "Christmas Trees" and the east coast "Pizza Boxes" and "Mattresses" pop up in several places. Of course Louisiana wanted to know how to recycle "Mardi Gras Beads" and of course, "Eclipse Glasses" just came up.
Texas Is The Weirdest
Florida almost out-weirded Texas with their answer of "Red Solo Cups", but Texas takes the crown with "Plastic Coat Hangers" (Okay, the aforementioned "Mardi Gras Beads" was weird, but it was expected). Is there something going on that I don't know about?Somehow the Lone Star State has a whole bunch of plastic coat hangers with Texans just standing around flummoxed, wondering what to do with them.
And The Answer Is...
After an exhaustive search, I have an answer on what to do with plastic coat hangers, and if they are useable you should indeed donate them to your local thrift shops and places like Goodwill. Even according to recycling experts broken plastic hangers are too hard to recycle and should just be thrown away.
