Celebrate Lubbock And The Area This Sunday In A Unique Way
A little community pride is never a bad thing.
Living in Lubbock can be a challenge. Let's start with the fact that it's hot, brutally, terribly hot. The dust always seems to be a problem even when the dust isn't blowing. A lot of people suffer from allergies during the harvest season and god forbid if you don't belong to one of the majority churches or political parties.
Yes, we have some very good people here. The town tends to look a little cleaner than most because our skyline isn't all junked up. There seems to be a lot of opportunity here (as long as you don't reach too high) and at the very least, there's always some new restaurant to try.
Good, bad, or indifferent, this is where we've put down roots and made our home. That's why this Sunday is kind of special. Have you figured out why yet? Well Sunday is August 6th, as in 8.06, as in 806 our area code.
806 Day really should become an annual thing and hopefully, this is one of those ideas that will get pushed up to community leaders so that we can have a day when we celebrate our little spot in West Texas.
Of course, it would be a little bit more awesome if the 806 area code was just ours, but we share it with Plainview and Amarillo (Boo! Hiss!). It's still pretty awesome that even though this area code takes up such a huge swath of Texas that a lot of people around here identify with it closely.
So this Sunday, smile and celebrate "the 806"!
