Texans may not be too lucky today.

Texas Wind

One might hope for a bit of the "Luck Of The Irish" with St. Patrick's Day coming up Monday, but it is highly unlikely that the high winds blowing across Texas wont do a lot damage. The fact is, a lot of the U.S. will suffer high winds and inclement weather today, with some areas even having blizzard type conditions.

Hard Hit Areas

As of now, upper West Texas (Lubbock, Amarillo) is expecting winds between 45-50 miles an hour (with higher gusts). We've certainly dealt with high winds here before but that doesn't mean that we're totally prepared for another round. Special attention should be paid to fences, trees, lawn furniture and anything else that could be caught up in the wind.

Strong, Continuous Wind

Part of the problem with today is this is not just gusts. When we have gusts it's possible that they can miss you and your property. Today's winds look to be strong and stay strong and consistent until the evening hours. This type of persistent pressure can move a lot of items that you may consider unmovable.

Current Conditions

In West Texas now, we are already seeing some of the landscaping take to the air in the form of dust. Not only can this make it hard to see, it can also cause breathing problems for those susceptible and/or working outdoors. This might just be the perfect time to use any leftover masks you have from the pandemic years.

The Outlook

If you'd like a little hope, windspeeds should peak out about 1:00 p.m., then very, very slowly diminish to "only" around 15-16 miles an hour at 10:00 p.m. Good luck.
