Lubbock Community Reacts To Arrest Of Teacher For Child Assault

Lubbock residents are disgusted to learn that former Lubbock ISD teacher, Jeremy Maxfield, 41, was arrested on multiple counts of sexual assault on a child and having an improper relationship between educator/student. They've taken to the internet to vent their frustrations.

What We Know About Maxfield

Jeremy Scott Maxfield was arrested this week by U.S. Marshals in Amherst. He was booked at the Lubbock County Detention Center around 8:15 pm on Wednesday on three counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of inappropriate relationship between teacher and student. These charges are second-degree felonies, and if convicted, Maxfield is looking at 2 to 20 years in prison.

Maxfield was indicted by the Lubbock County grand jury on Tuesday; however, the indictment itself was not made public until after his arrest. The charges stem from an investigation by the LISD police that started back in April of 2024.

Maxfield's Career At LHS

Maxfield worked at Lubbock High School from August 2007 until he resigned in June 2024, after being placed on administrative leave following the investigation into his conduct at school.

He is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.

What Lubbock Residents Have To Say

Since not everyone out there follows Lubbock County Mugshots on Facebook (highly recommend going and doing that right now, BTW), I thought I would share some of the 439 comments left on Maxfield's mugshot. The most unsettling commonality between what people had to say is that Maxfield's being charged doesn't seem to come as much of a surprise.

On Maxfield's mugshot post, a few comments really stood out to me. Like, "It's almost as if his past behavior could have predicted this.", and, "If Lubbock High staff knew this was happening, they are just as guilty as him. They allowed other students to be hurt by him for so many years. This is truly so sad for everyone involved to have no one to protect them.", as well as, "Teaching almost 20 years. 15 years ago, in his English class, he kept me after often, and we would just talk about all kinds of stuff. I knew he was flirting with me. I should have said something, but apparently lots of girls DID say something and no one listened."
