Seriously, what is up with Dan Patrick? He is threatening to force a special session of the Texas Legislature because of this non-issue.

So far, while Patrick has waited for his pet bathroom bill to come to a vote, we've had NO incidents of abuse. Before that, we've had NO incidents of bathroom abuse. This whole thing is nonsense and a waste of taxpayer money and time.

Patrick is looking to force the special session to deal with this bathroom bill and another on when cities must get voter approval on tax rates. Politicians look to force issues like this during the end of regular sessions and by calling special sessions, often with the hope that everybody will just go "fine, let's just vote so we can go home".

A similar bathroom bill cost and continues to keep costing North Carolina billions of dollars, it's probably something that shouldn't be rushed into. If Patrick is ready to tank the Texas economy and our entertainment options, this bill deserves a full debate during a regular session. As for the bill on taxes, legislators will debate the current bill on Thursday.

Governor Abbott is the only one who can call a special session and Abbott is banking on the fact that he will. I don't know what it costs to keep these folks in town for a vote, but my guess is plenty. It's a waste of time and money.
