Lubbock Decimates Grocery Stores Ahead Of Mini Cold Front
This is kind of embarrassing.
The Cold Front
The Lubbock area is currently in the middle of a three-day cold front. That's correct, exactly three days with no precipitation, snow, or other problems other than really low temperatures (it was 8 degrees when I started this post). Again the high on Sunday was mid 20's, on Monday it would be 29, on Tuesday we'll hit around 34, and then things get back to 63 on Wednesday
The Store
I had to run to Walmart on Sunday morning for some air filters. No big deal. I lived in Spokane, Washington for a couple of winters so I have no problem getting out. I thought I'd just look over at the fresh and frozen meat to see how ridiculous people got, and the answer is, pretty darn ridiculous. Sure, it wasn't pandemic-level shortages but I'd say 70% of the fresh meat was wiped out and at least 50% of the frozen stuff was wiped out. I'm sure I would have seen a similar scene by the water, but I wasn't that interested in seeing how low my fellow man could stoop. I did have a friend who experienced the same at another store and she took pictures.
So What's The Big Deal?
It's just a bit bothersome that people will clean these shelves off with no thought towards other people's needs. It's also plain weird to me how everybody doesn't just keep it simple and throw on a pot of stew, soup, or beans that'll last all three cold days. Instead, people act like Jack Frost will murder them if they don't buy two weeks' worth of food.
There's No Hate Here
I also have to say, I don't 100% blame people either. Tropical Storm Uri and the pandemic taught people that the food chain is not incredibly secure. I would think that people would also learn these lessons and already have a few things stashed back in case of emergency. I guess some do not have the shelf or freezer space, and some just can't afford to have food around that is not going to immediate use. So let's just end with, if you can, please put a little extra back here and there so there's something left for your neighbors in times of minor emergencies.
