Where Does Lubbock Rank For Halloween Fun?
Halloween is closer than you think. In fact, many people start gearing up for spooky season as soon as the fireworks from the 4th of July fade.
Here in Lubbock, Halloween has grown significantly in popularity. Religious-based objections to the holiday—which were once fairly common—have largely faded into the background. Today, local celebrations span from dark and spooky to bright, glittery, and family-friendly.
Lubbock's Halloween Scene Is Bigger Than Ever
Lubbock is now home to one of the largest haunted attractions in the world. The At’l Do Farms Corn Maize has embraced pumpkin patch themes, and the annual Lubbock Pumpkin Trail continues to draw thousands of visitors each fall.
Despite these standout events, Lubbock didn’t fare well in Wallethub’s annual “Best Places for Halloween 2025” rankings. The Hub City came in at a disappointing #68.
So what happened?
The Metrics Miss the Mark
Wallethub’s ranking was based on three metrics:
Trick-or-Treater Friendliness
Halloween Fun
Halloween Weather
While Lubbock struggled in the first two categories, it did rank #1 for Halloween weather, which is no small feat!
Still, I think Lubbock is underrated here. While we may not see as many kids going door-to-door these days, there are dozens of safe, fun Halloween events where families can fill their candy buckets and make memories.
Why Halloween Matters to Lubbock
Personally, I’d love to see Lubbock embrace Halloween even more. Around here, being into Halloween still feels like a bit of a rebellious act—and that’s part of what makes it fun.
Beyond that, Lubbock is often defined solely by Buddy Holly and Texas Tech. But why not aim for a new identity too? Claiming the title of “Halloween Capital of West Texas” could be a fun and fitting distinction.
Let’s own it. Let’s light up the night. And let’s make Halloween in Lubbock something the rest of Texas talks about.
