A Lubbock tea and beverage store has closed abruptly- leaving some wondering how they will use the remaining amounts on their gift cards.

Nobilitea is a tea franchise that carries both premade tea to-go in individual and group sizes, as well as loose leaf teas, tea pots and other tea-related items for making tea at home.

My first encounter with Nobilitea was in a Dallas mall and I thought it was very sophisticated (I was pretty young) albeit kinda niche. Turns out tea places have become very popular- however, the competition is (drumroll, please) steep.

See what I did there? Anyway...

Lubbock's location, formerly located 11814 Indiana, made the announcement on Facebook:

It’s with a heavy heart we announce the closing of the Lubbock, TX location. We want to thank everyone for their support over the last 3.5 years. It was an extremely difficult decision. We hope to return soon.

Many people in the comments expressed sympathy for the closure, while others remarked that the location was "too far" for many to visit the location often.

So sorry to hear this. One of my favorite drink places for sure.

My mom and I loved trying you guys out when yall first opened, we would have been more, but you were just were so far from us

Still others were alarmed that they have gift cards with remaining balances, and with no warning of an impending closure, they can't use them here in Lubbock.

I have 25.00 left on my card wish I knew in advance so I could have used it!

Nobilitea responded to those comments by stating that the cards are still good for Nobilitea's online store, or at other locations.

The closest locations are Amarillo or Abilene- not exactly a quick trip. There are many locations throughout Texas, so it might be worth saving for your next road trip.

Nobilitea is one of many Lubbock locations that closed this year- joining Logan's Roadhouse, World of Beer, Reece Bath + Kitchen Showroom and other chains.

Lubbock also lost several local originals like Bella's Bridal, Frost Brewery, and Woody's, among others.
