NEW DETAILS: Texas Road Rage Shooting May Have Actually Been Domestic Violence
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A woman was found shot to death, her vehicle riddled with bullets, after crashing into a tree in front of a home in northwest Harris County in what investigators first believed was likely a road rage shooting.
Debra Carrington was initially thought to have been shot by a random person in the neighborhood before losing control of her vehicle and crashing after a road rage incident took a drastic turn for the worse.
Upon further investigation, authorities found the murder to be much more suspicious.
Signs point to domestic violence.
Surveillance footage from a camera in the vicinity of the crash site captured 54-year-old Gregory Brown, Carrington's ex-boyfriend, near the scene of the crime. Police also determined the pair had an interaction via cellphone shortly before her death.
A warrant was issued for Brown, and the Sheriff’s Office Violent Criminal Apprehension Team attempted to execute the warrant at his residence. Unfortunately, Brown refused to leave his home, barricading himself inside.
It was not the ending they'd hoped for.
The Houston Police Department SWAT team was called to the scene and eventually made entry, where they found Brown had shot himself at some point after the first warrant execution attempt.
At this point, investigators believe Brown acted alone in carrying out the murder of his ex-girlfriend and are not searching for other suspects.
