In a since-deleted tweet on X from Mrs. Black herself, it was strongly insinuated that part of the Black family is looking to bring their award-winning barbecue to Lubbock.

What Is Terry Black’s BBQ and Why Lubbock Wants It

Terry Black's Barbeque is the result of a familial split between the Black family, who created Black's BBQ in Lockhart. This establishment achieved legendary status (and lengthy lines) for its famous pit barbecue.

However, due to what Terry Black refers to as "a time when greed and discourse takes over," the family split barbecue operations, with Terry Black's BBQ opening in Austin. Terry Black's has seen tremendous success, expanding into Dallas, Waco, Fort Worth, and back into their hometown of Lockhart.

Terry Black's is continuing to expand, with a location planned in San Antonio.

Lubbock wants a Terry Black's BBQ because A) we envy any restaurant Dallas and Austin has, and B) these folks have thoroughly established themselves amongst the highest echelon of Texas barbecue pit masters.

Where To Get Barbeque In Lubbock Instead of Terry Black's

Since we don't have a Terry Black's yet (and it would take a couple of years to build, I imagine), here are some places I recommend that are all great options.

The Shack (2309 N Frankford Ave) gets tons of rave reviews from locals, and I love it too. Unlike a lot of BBQ joints, they have a full bar, too. Get the collard greens as a side, they are phenomenal.

Evie Mae's (217 US-62, Wolfforth) is not technically in Lubbock, but a short drive for Texas Monthly award-winning barbecue (also a great option for Celiac, as they are incredibly careful about gluten)

Jimenez y Friends Barbecue y Taqueria (4606 34th St) is another Texas Monthly BBQ favorite, and they have the best queso on the planet, too.

Smok'd Pit BBQ (11310 Slide Rd, inside United), if you are looking for a quick and easy option that is still impressive and delicious, don't sleep on Smok'd!
