We have been known to roll a "Top 500" weekend around here a time or two.

This year we're going with something a little less intense for your Memorial Day Weekend. We'll have a "three day, three-way" weekend. It's packed with Triple shots at the top and bottom of each hour. Just for grins though, I thought I'd generate a "Top 500" list to see where the "most played" song shook out. Now notice how I wrote "most played" because we're not putting any judgments on these songs and saying one is better than the other. Technically though, one could make the argument that the most played songs are the best ones, because those are the ones people want (we sure don't program the songs people don't want around here.

10. Bush-Comedown

9. Offspring-Self Esteem

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers-Give It Away

7. Smashing Pumpkins-Bullet With Butterfly Wings

6. Nirvana-Come As You Are

5. Stone Temple Pilots-Interstate Love Song

4. Metallica-Enter Sandman

3. Pearl Jam-Even Flow

2. Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit

1. Alice In Chains-Man In The Box

So let's talk about this a little bit. First off, I was surprised that it was that particular Bush song coming in and number ten, then WOW, have the Nineties taken over or what? Well, that trend continues way into the twenties, before Guns n' Roses finally shows up with Sweet Child O' Mine at 27 and Welcome To The Jungle at 31. More 90's take over all the way through number 44 when Linkin Park shows up with "In The End".

It takes us all the way to number 67 before the 80's hard rock shows up with Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart".  Ozzy comes to play at 79 with Crazy Train.  Zeppelin doesn't make the list until 104 with the Immigrant Song".  Out of curiosity, I thought I'd check on former #1 Freebird and it's dropped all the way down to 662.

So there you go, all the fun of a countdown and none of the tension!
