Uncover Texas’ Secret Role in the Mukbang Craze – A Stunning Revelation!
Stay with me friends as we learn about "Mukbang" together.
Giant Ramen!
I recently stopped by an H-Mart while visiting a relative. In case you have never been, H-Marts are giant supersized Asian grocery stores. They are actually spread across the country with at least three locations right here in Texas. I am a ramen freak, and when I stumbled across an enormous ramen, I was immediately interested. As you can see from the photo below, part of the label said, "Only For Mukbang Challengers".
More On Mukbang
I had to get to the bottom of this "mukbang" thing. Mukbang actually means something to the effect of "eating broadcast". Usually it's someone online talking while eaten large amounts of food. This is no doubt the reason why the supersized ramen pictured above is being marketed the way it is. Now, what if a famous Texas eating challenge was the inspiration for all it? I certainly think it had to play a part somewhere along the line.
Texas Mukbang
So yes, mukbang is essentially people watching and/or interacting with you while you eat a large amount of food. While in the beginning there was no actual "broadcast" all of this brings to mind the 72-ounce Big Texan Steak Challenge in Amarillo. This challenge has been going on since 1960 and continues to make headlines and be top of mind to this day. Technically it would only be a mukbang if you lived streamed yourself doing it, but guess what? The Big Texan has a live stream set up already! If you're ready to mukbang, you can start right now in Amarillo, Texas (and remember the steak is free if you finish it!).
