You cannot completely rely on others to keep you safe from Coronavirus.

The most frightening thing about Coronavirus is that any idiot could give it to you.  Just one moron who doesn't wash his hands or comes to work sick and a lot of innocent people get infected. That's why, while not foolproof, you have to take matters into your own hands.

Lubbock very well could become a virus hotspot because of the rampant ignorance and lack of leadership here. You have to take it upon yourself to minimize your trips out, to clean everything, and to not allow other people to put you into a situation where you could catch this disease.

It is not rude to ask someone to stand six feet away. It is not rude to tell someone "I'd rather not" if they try to shake your hand. It is not rude to do anything you don't want to do. We have to establish new short-term social guidelines with other people in order to make it through this.

By all means, start getting back to living, but do it smartly. Plan your trips out so that you don't have to make so many of them. Touch base with LOCAL retailers online so that you can see what they offer for quick pickup. Realize that for a little while that birthdays, weddings, funerals and other gatherings just aren't going to happen (it's okay, just imagine the awesome party you're going to have when they do). Just remember to take care of yourself.
