Listeria is a bacterial illness that can have serious if not fatal consequences for pregnant women, people over 65, and people with weakened immune systems, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, serious symptoms like convulsions can occur.

The cheeses subject to recall are soft-ripened varieties like brie and Camembert, which are surrounded by a "bloom" created by a combination of harmless bacteria, including Penicillium camemberti.

The brands subject to the recall were produced by Savencia Cheese USA, and include:

Aldi Emporium Selection Brie, 12/8oz Brie

Supreme Oval 7oz, 6/7oz

La Bonne Vie Brie, 6/8oz

La Bonne Vie Camember, 6/8oz

12/8oz Industrial Brie

Market Basket Brie 6/8oz

Glenview Farms Spreadable Brie, 2/3lb

If you have any of these cheeses, check the lot numbers and the Best Buy date (yes, it is "buy") at the FDA website.

If the lot numbers match, discard the product or return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

It is unclear where the cheese was sold, although Texas certainly has Aldi stores and some of these brands on shelves.

The FDA website simply states they, "had limited regional distribution in the United States," but does not define which region.

The FDA also states that stores are "in the process" of removing the items, so buy with caution as well.
