Several Varieties Of Milk Sold In Texas Recalled For Potentially Fatal Reason

Several varieties of lactose-free dairy milk have been recalled due to a potentially fatal undeclared allergen.

The milk may contain traces of almonds as indicated by a routine maintenance program which revealed the potential for trace amounts of almonds, according to the FDA.

"Almond allergies are common and are often severe," according to Allergy Insider. Tree nut and peanut allergies are the cause of 70 to 90 percent of anaphylactic fatalities.

People with food allergies are also commonly "cross-reactive," meaning a person with a peanut, kiwi, berries, etc., allergy could also have sensitivity to almonds.

LACTAID lactose-free dairy milk, which was sold in several states including Texas, is the brand subject to recall.

Several varieties of the brand in the 96-ounce size could potentially contain trace amounts of almonds, including:

96 oz Lactaid Whole Milk

96 oz Lactaid 2% Milk

96oz Lactaid 1% Milk

96oz Lactaid Fat Free Milk

96oz Lactaid 2% Calcium Enriched Milk

The recall affects several "BEST BUY" dates and lot numbers. If you bought any of the above varieties of milk and are concerned about the possible trace amounts of almonds, you should check to see if your milk is affected here.
