Recent produce recalls include certain brands of cucumbers and mustard greens sold in Texas that are potentially contaminated with dangerous bacteria.

Both produce items present particular dangers for disease. Cucumbers are generally eaten raw, and leafy greens have a lot of surface area, meaning they can be exposed to dangerous organisms more.

Cucumbers

The cucumbers subject to recall are “Pamela” brand, generic boxed cucumbers with a sticker indicating the grower’s name, “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V." and "PamPak" clear bags of 6 cucumbers. The UPC on the PamPak cucumbers is 8 2540107010 6.

The cucumbers subject to recall were sold through November 26th and were possibly contaminated with Salmonella.

According to the FDA, "the cucumbers would have reached consumers through foodservice and retail outlets" including Texas, meaning restaurants should also check their vegetables.

Salmonella can be serious or even fatal to children, the elderly, and the medically frail.

If you bought any of these cucumbers, they should be thrown out (or returned to the point of purchase) and any surfaces they touched should be cleaned and sanitized.

Mustard Greens

Baker Farms Curly Mustard, 16 oz. plastic bags with BEST BY 11-21-2024 are subject to recall. The greens bags were sold in Texas with UPC code 8 13098 02018 4.

The Texas Department of State Health Services found the greens were contaminated with Listeria. 

Listeria can make anyone unpleasantly sick, but is dangerous to children, the elderly, and the medically frail and can cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant women.
