Texas, You Should Watch Out For These Potentially Deadly Recent Recalls
It sure seems like there have been many recalls recently- many of which effect Texas foods, drinks and other products.
Some recalls are short-lived, due to the nature of the product. If you still have recalled milk from a month ago, well, it'll make you sick for other reasons.
However, some items can hang out for weeks or months in pantries, fridges, freezers- or even your makeup bag. And the reason they were recalled is likely still a problem.
We will take a look at dangerous recalled items that you should be aware of, but first...
Why Items Get Recalled
Food, drink, medicines, and cosmetics get recalled for a variety of reasons- but they all come down to the product being unsafe.
Dangerous organisms like Listeria, E. Coli, Salmonella, and mold account for many if not most, recalls, as these can make you very sick or even prove deadly for vulnerable populations like the elderly, the immunocompromised, and pregnant women.
Items can be recalled for these organisms after someone gets sick- or the manufacturing facility is discovered to be contaminated. Sometimes products do not go through even pasteurization or decontamination process, too.
Toxic metals and other contaminants are another reason items get recalled- whether it's lead or in the case earlier this year- plastic chunks in potato salad.
Undeclared allergens are a common reason for recall- as people with severe allergies can get sick or die if they eat a food they thought was safe. Milk, nuts, and eggs are common culprits.
