Godsmack have announced the official details for both their live album and collection of recently recorded cover songs, which we can now confirm will arrive this May in one package called ‘Live & Inspired.’

Godsmack have been teasing a couple of projects for months now, one of which being four cover songs they recorded and another being an upcoming live album. Details of both have slowly emerged and in a new press release, the band announced that both are part of ‘Live & Inspired,’ which will hit stores May 15.

The “Live” section contains 13 tracks, including performances of ‘Awake,’ ‘Straight Out of Line,’ and ‘Voodoo,’ recorded during their 2010 performance at Detroit’s Fox Theatre. “It’s always a great audience, as any rock band will tell you,” says frontman Sully Erna. “Playing there is a special kind of fan base that they have there, they live up to their reputation. They’re a great rock audience, so that’s where the record was recorded.”

In our own recent interview with Erna, he told us, “We were going to do a compilation with [one] song from Vegas, [one] song is from Chicago, this one is from Dallas, but … the more we listened to the Detroit show, the more we kind of figured out that it was a really good show for us.”

The “Inspired” portion of the release refers to the four cover songs the band recorded as an homage to tracks that have influenced them over the years. All of the cover songs have yet to be identified, but the band is currently streaming their rendition of the Joe Walsh classic rock staple ‘Rocky Mountain Way.’

Meanwhile, Godsmack are set to embark on a co-headlining run with Staind on the Mass Chaos Tour featuring support from Halestorm. The 24-date trek that kicks off April 13 in Augusta, Georgia.
