As we approach the Lone Star Series on Monday evening between the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, the plot thickens as both teams of our great state hit big season milestones this weekend.

First up, the Houston Astros earned their 60th win on the diamond at Minute Maid Park against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The team took the series by a 2-1 margin, losing the first game Friday 6-4 in extras, then retaliated with a 9-2 barrage on Saturday. Houston now holds a solid four-game lead on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Secondly, the beloved Texas Rangers played good ball against one of the NL's best in San Francisco, winning the series two games to one. The team compiled its fiftieth win on Friday with a 6-3 victory. The team went on to lose it's next game on August 1st by a score of 9-7, then again manufactured a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. The team pulled within four games of the Angels, who were swept by the Dodgers over the weekend.

One thing is for certain: the Battle for the Silver Boot will be a good one, as it always is, and now more serious implications have been attached. We'll have recaps for each game starting Monday night when Houston youngster Lance McCullers will duel with the Rangers' Colby Lewis.
