I guess it's good that people are passionate about concerts, but sometimes the responses  and comments are absolutely damn ridiculous. If you don't like a show, don't go. If you want to see your favorite band and they're not part of our lineup, well gas is cheap, hit the road. Oh, and go to your favorite bands Facebook page and bitch at them for not coming instead of complaining that we aren't bringing them. I wish we could be all things to all people, but in Lubbock that is just not an option.

I don't mean to be snarky, but first and foremost, it's not your money putting on these shows. Promoters are basically high risk gamblers (I'll bet some who have promoted shows are laughing right now). They take all of the information they can about past and current performances, radio play, and the bands presence on social networks and then they hope the routing works out.

Right now routing is a MAJOR problem too. The uber-festivals this year have really messed up touring routes. It's not a forever thing, some of these festivals will go away, or spread out. Also, the bands are going to have to start hitting "secondary" markets like Lubbock, simply because they've already played all the big festivals in the big cities.

So anyways, we have our FMX Birthday Bash coming up. It is traditionally NOT a festival. It's usually just three or four bands and usually only one of them is a big name. Now, we've  varied from this time to time based on availability and we're doing it again this year. It looks like we have eight bands this year and there's some pretty good variety there.  The variety was VERY MUCH intentional, but probably still won't be enough for some people. Then some people will bitch about the ones that have been here before. Some are not going to like the day of the week it's on.....and on and on.

I can tell you this. This is the FMX Birthday Bash. There will be thousands and thousands there.  There's even a chance it will sell out.  All FMX Birthday Bashes have sold out before, but this one will be outside and there's a lot of room there.  Your really can't underestimate bands that have had huge radio hits. Then there's the draw of the 'Bash itself. We've had sold out shows with Green Jello, Ugly Kid Joe and Queens Of The Stone Age and these are bands that weren't selling anywhere else out at the time.

Still there will be those who comment "meh", "again", or "I'm saving my money". Guess what? We're going to have a BLAST without the haters. This is our Birthday Bash and I think Rooster, Driver and Heathen would join me in saying we're happy those with a pissy attitude will stay home. We have more than enough fans over the last 34 years to make this a HUGE event and we cannot wait to see old friends, familiar faces and new friends. Let's celebrate this great radio station, the greatest listeners in the world and a great evening of rock.

Your official announcement is coming this Monday!
